Path and URL to Your Group's Base Directory

Log into one of the ECE Linux servers (try ece-linlabsrv01.ece.gatech.edu first)

Port: 22 (needed for SSH)

Use your Web Master's GT Account Name and password

Change directly to your group's directory if incremental changes do not work on your SSH client.

Path and URL to Your Group's Base Directory

For example, the sd20f00 group's Web Master should log into his ECE UNIX account then change directories directly to

/home/seniordesign/sd20f00

When posted, the group's home page should be in a file named index.html residing in the directory above and should render at

http://ece4873y202008.ece.gatech.edu/sd20f00/

Name your index file index.html (because that is the Apache default) and where we shall search.

An error message probably will be rendered until you actually post an index.html file.

Deliverables Posting

All deliverables should be posted in your group's ECE4873 web space in at least PDF and your native file formats.

To facilitate our programmatically identifying your submission's deliverables, for your minimal set of required deliverables use the file names given in this example web site (also available as a ZIP file with all content) with Technical Review Papers for ECE4011 alumni and potentially individual picture file naming adjusted to facilitate unique student names.

Otherwise, you are welcome to embellish as you wish as long as a static copy of your web space renders readable pages on all contemporary browsers if hosted from a Linux, UNIX, or Windows server and with filenames which will not cause problems if swapped between Linux, UNIX, and Windows hosts. Try to stay under 300M bytes. The example web site is purposefully minimalist as we know that you can do better.

To post to your site:

Locally create a web site containing your group's deliverables. While you are welcome to edit the minimalist example, you also are welcome to experiment and iterate to a much better presentation.

Have your group's Web Master log in to your group's ECE server web space and upload your web content.

After you upload your files to the ECE server, a script run by the ECE Computer Support Group will copy your ECE server files to the OIT server which can render your web site. As of this writing, the script runs at 20 and 50 minutes after each hour. You can read and write to the ECE server which cannot render the files. Only ECE can write to the OIT site which can render the files. (These constraints are prompted by ECE to OIT administrations.)

After the ECE Computer Support Group script copies your content to the OIT servers, confirm that your web site renders as you anticipated.

Videos Too Large?

This ffmpeg command line can reduce the size of a video by half..

ffmpeg -i input.mp4 -vf scale=iw/2:-1 output.mp4

ECE Computer Support Group Recommendations
(Some 2020 Fall updates pending to this section)

In prior semesters, if you had forgotten your ECE UNIX passwords or had never activated your ECE UNIX accounts, you would go to Klaus 1440 and see the UA or the Lab Manager in Klaus 1346. Now, students use their Georgia Tech accounts.

If you are trying to connect from a computer outside of ECE's network, you will have to follow the Students section of the Remote Access instructions:
https://faq.oit.gatech.edu/content/how-do-i-get-started-campus-vpn

The servers must be accessed via sftp or ssh. More information about software available for Windows which support ssh/sftp are located on the Remote Access web page above. Depending on your client, you will want to submit directly the path to your destination directory or if using the UNIX cd command, change directories directly instead of incrementally to your target subdirectory.

You are welcome to protect your web site directories by requiring a Georgia Tech login. To do this, either download, rename, and upload this file. Or, create and place in your directories a file named .htaccess (yes, the first character is a dot) containing the following text:

AuthType Cas
Require valid-user

The directories are available from the machines listed on the following page:
https://help.ece.gatech.edu/labs/names. Your servers are accessed by logging into ece-linlabsrv01.ece.gatech.edu at port 22

When not on the ECE network (this includes being on LAWN/GTwifi), it's necessary to connect to the VPN before trying to ssh/sftp to the servers: https://help.ece.gatech.edu/policies/remote

The following web pages list related policies:
https://comm.gatech.edu/campus-resources/websites
https://news.gatech.edu/2012/09/26/online-guide-provides-students-licensing-lowdown

The following pages list the policies for the use of Georgia Tech logos:
https://brand.gatech.edu/brand/downloads-templates

If after trying you have any questions about access mechanics, please send a message to help@ece.gatech.edu.
